eco-ecphrasis art prints
eco-ecphrasis art prints
An ecphrasis is a graphic or dramatic description of a visual work of art. The more the reauthored text comes into its own voice, in a stance away from the originary work, the better. In these eco-art broadsides printed on lavish artcard is a kind of internal dialogue – the medium has a narrative, if one looks closely enough – and this dialogue further unravels into an open terrain of meaning through the viewer’s interpretation. It is through this endless interplay of sense and meaning that these artworks represent visual poems with a language all their own. The inaugural writer-in-residence at Gardens by the Bay, Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé curated this Eco-Ecphrasis Series as a celebration of the spaces where art, ecology and poetry meet. This stellar showcase features galleried artists from as far as Australia, Canada, Cyprus, Italy, Kenya, Poland, UK and USA.
This exclusive eco-themed series by Squircle Line Press has been made possible with the support of arts patron Agro Genesis. To view these art print collectibles, scroll down our extensive gallery below.

GREEN FLOWER
by Alison Chaplin
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
Alison Chaplin is a full-time artist living and working on the edge of London. She trained at Walthamstow Art College and was an art teacher in Redbridge. Of her work, she says: “I have always lived in close proximity to Epping Forest and have enjoyed drawing and painting the trees. My acrylic paintings are concerned with isolating particular trees against a clear sky. This helps me to explore the unique characteristics of the various species and to celebrate their differences. The forest landscape paintings are oil on canvas, and in painting these, I am exploring the texture of the foliage and the effects of the light shining through the leaves and the shadows cast on the forest floor.” Chaplin exhibits frequently in central London galleries, most recently in The Artefact Gallery at Windmll St., 54 The Gallery at Shepherds Mkt, and Gallery 27 in Cork Street. Exhibition venues include: The View Gallery, Loughton Arts Centre, Stone Space Gallery, Upper Room Leyton Library, Courtyard Gallery, Kings Lynn Art Centre, The Gallery at Parndon Mill Elizabeth Way, Brick Lane Gallery, Joy Gallery, Lauderdale House, Heatherset Gallery, Ashkanazi Gallery, Brampton Gallery, and Gibberd Garden Gallery. Chaplin’s work has been included in private collections in Britain and USA. For more information on the artist, please visit her website HERE.
ORIGAMI PLANT
by Bonnie Schupp
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
Bonnie Schupp does not always see what others see. An ordinary green plant might evolve into an origami-like photo creation. Maybe her mind was warped from teaching middle school students for many years, or perhaps after her Fulbright to Japan, she began seeing in new ways. Ever since she was a child though, she has looked at life through a lens — real or imagined. Over the years, her vision has resulted in many awards, including second place in Kodak’s international KINSA competition. She has had numerous solo and group exhibits and written about photography for magazines and newspapers. She interviewed and photographed Lotte Jacobi, who had photographed Albert Einstein. With an eclectic eye that sees images as stock, journalism, art and more, one of her pieces is part of the permanent collection of The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University and another hangs in a lobby of The Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital campus in Baltimore. Her biggest project was “Defining Ourselves,” portraits of people representing 15 countries, aged four to 100, who completed the sentence, “I am…”. Her most satisfying photo was photographing her daughter as Bonnie was giving birth to her. Bonnie also officiates weddings and writes poetry. $12.99 USD

Rampton’s honors include the Utah Watercolor Society Miniature Show Juror’s Award, Utah Watercolor Society Fall Membership Show Juror’s Award, University of Utah President’s Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, and George Fox Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fine Arts, Rowland Hall-St. Marks. Of her work, Rampton has this to say: “Some tell me I’m crazy for painting in the mountains in the dead of winter, or for battling swarms of biting flies in summer. And yet, there I stand for hours, working, feeling there is nowhere else I would rather be. I’m energized by the challenges and beauty of nature, by the dynamics of light, atmosphere and temperature in the Rocky Mountains and in the deserts of the southwest. Some days I work with great energy, slapping paint with a palette knife, dripping turpentine and then pushing around the thinned paint or letting the drips create patterns of their own. Other days, I’m quieter, and my use of the palette knife is more controlled, as I attempt to honor the integrity of each stroke. I work on instinct more than thought, for instinct holds greater honesty and clarity.” One and Two-Person Exhibitions include shows at the following venues: Phillips Gallery, Free Spirit Holistic Mountain Spa, Sweet Branch Library, Red Butte Garden and Arboretum, Crowley Gallery & Café, Ogden Union Station, Weber County Library, Wilkerson Fine Art, Sagebrush Gallery, Loge Gallery, Gallery At The Station, Idaho Falls Arts Center, Cafe Molise, Chapman Library, Brady Drive Thru Gallery, Park Café, and Avenues Arts and Wellness Gallery. THE TREE
by Jean-François Dupuis
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
Jean-François Dupuis is a Canadian artist who works in illustration and photography. Dupuis’ work demonstrates his vivid imagination and unconscious themes. His work is created digitally, using photo references and found objects as the basis of his montages. These collages then take on a unique perspective with the additional painterly touches and techniques he has honed over the past 15 years. Dupuis says this of his work: “As a photo-based artist in Sherbrooke, working in both colour, black-and-white, and alternative processes, part of my exploration has been to push the boundary of what is perceived as photography, in an effort to create a vision of our world that absorbs the viewer, and transports them outside of themselves. Manipulating Polaroid film (also known as Time Zero), as well as Polaroid emulsion transfers and lifts, much of my work blurs the line of what a photograph is. Perception is questioned. Hand-manipulating Polaroid emulsion gives me a visceral and intuitive connection to my surroundings. Reality is no longer a crisp representation through the lens, but becomes an altered state – moving, yet static. An intimate three-dimensional world of detail on the surface of the image belies what we are taught to experience within the two-dimensional language of the camera. A visual tension is born, as glimpses of a ‘photographic reality’ slip in and out of view, toying with what is known, perhaps reminiscent of a dream, a place of timelessness.” For more information on the artist, please visit his website HERE.
THE MOUNTAIN RISES OUT OF EMPTY SKY

MOTION IN THE OCEAN IS ALL AROUND
by Jennifer Gabbay
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
Jennifer Gabbay has had solo exhibitions at venues such as Sydney Children’s Hospital, Sara Roney Gallery, Event Horizon Gallery, and Australian Consulate-General. Selected group exhibitions include S.H. Ervin Gallery, The Milk Factory Gallery, CoCo’s 2012 Contemporary Colourists, Blacktown City Arts Centre, University of Western Sydney, TAP Gallery, Cornell Medical Center Library, and Lenox Hill Artists Forum. Of her work, Gabbay says: “Since evolving into a distinctive style via the disintegration of shapes and colours into fragments and thus creating images through diffusion and distortion, I strive to express movement and rhythm as well as emotive spirit through illusions. My work focuses on merging ideas, diverse cultural customs and personal experience into abstracted images of both figurative and visible worlds. The distortions of movement and colour evoke radiance and diversity. Works are painted in oil on board, a support that lends itself to my work through the blending of colour saturation; this breeds lushness. The working process, an immersion of self, directs me to meticulously apply fine brushstrokes. Gradually the work comes into focus from genesis to intense layering of colour and mark-making. I generally work in series. The freedom to make contemporary art allows me to combine thoughts and materials, thereby responding subjectively and spiritually from concept to execution.” Gabbay has a Diploma in Fine Arts from TAFE Western Sydney Institute, and received art training at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, Art Students’ League NYC with William Scharf, John Ogburn Studio, and Joe Rose Studio. Her honors include: Acquisitive Prize Blacktown City Council (Winner); Portia Geach Memorial Award (Finalist); Blackheath Art Society Winter Exhibition (First Prize); Euan MacLeod Judge’s Prize B Art Exhibition; TAFE 2008 Student Painting Acquisitive Prize (Winner); and Blackheath Art Society Easter Art Exhibition (First Prize). Her work has been included in public, corporate and private collections in USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia. For more information on the artist, please visit her website HERE.
BREEDING
by Joanna Mlącka
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
A Polish artist, Joanna Mlącka lives and works near Warsaw. She graduated from the Painting Art Department at The Academy Fine Arts in Warsaw. She was on probation scholarship at The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, and received a diploma with the chancellor’s honor at Jaroslaw Modzelewski’s studio, where she also specialized in photography. Her honors include being the scholarship holder of Warsaw capital city, prizewinner of the “Initiative Entry”, and Jozef Szajna’s Award and Ewa Tomaszewska’s honor for her diploma work. Mlącka uses her observation of objects as a method. Of this, she says: “These objects sometimes belong to the world of used, unwanted, neglected things. Sometimes, they are meticulously arranged in quite unexpected environments. I’ve chosen objects which appeal to me in form and story. During the process of painting, they become monumental shapes put strictly in an artwork, its space. I often refer to free associations and memories while I am working. I intuitively convey people’s stories into objects. I create landscapes of ourselves.” Her solo exhibitions have been at Gallery (-1), Bochenska Gallery, and Korekta Gallery. It is about the intersection of the individual and the omnipresent natural world. Each piece honors my own sense of delight in seeing the whole universe in a tidal pool, a bird on a branch, a patch of lichen.” Trained at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts, Guralnick received her BA in painting from St. Martins School of Art in London, then her MFA in painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. REPETITION
by John Vias
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
John Vias wanders around in the dark taking pictures. His award-winning night photography has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and other art venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Pro Arts and Joyce Gordon galleries in Oakland, Canvas Gallery and Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, and the Berkeley Art Center. Of his work and technique, Vias says: “I photograph in the dark. Night brings on a curfew, emptying streets and sidewalks. The even sunlight of the day gives way to dramatic pools of light, creating impromptu stages where the actors never arrive. Photographing at night is also like shooting a movie all on one frame. Time is compressed, movement is frozen. What’s left is stillness and quiet. With our hurried lifestyles, my work is an invitation to slow down. And look.” Vias’s work has won awards in juried shows and has been reprinted in the press. It hangs in public, private, and corporate collections in the US and abroad. Born in Evanston, Illinois, Vias earned a Certificate in Photography from University of California Berkeley Extension and a BA from the University of Florida. He lives and works in Berkeley, California. For more information on the artist, please visit his website HERE.

OCEAN BLOSSOM
by Katherine Smith-Schad
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
Katherine Smith-Schad’s art is constantly changing and evolving, just as life. A busy mom working full-time as an artist and an art coach, Smith-Schad enjoys working with clients who have brain injuries, Alzheimer’s, and autism. She finds a great sense of reward and fulfillment out of working with those who are in some “struggle” find inner “calm” and “flow” through creating art together. Her paintings are often inspired by the garden, hope and the great outdoors of the West. They are bold in color, depth and light. Often moving beyond traditional perceptions of painting, Smith-Schad utilizes combinations of acrylic, alcohol ink and watercolor on various types of base, including canvas, board, ceramic, metal, glass, found materials, and interestingly, Yupo and TerraSkin. Yupo is 100% recyclable “tree free” synthetic paper made from recycled plastic water bottles in the US, and TerraSkin is environmentally friendly paper made from rock and resin in Canada. Smith-Schad applies archival UV protective varnish over all work to insure years of protection while kept out of direct full sun. Smith-Schad began painting in 2001 and started sharing her talent with the public in 2012. Her work is featured in several galleries in Northern and Southern California. She is the recipient of the People’s Choice Award at ASiF Gallery’s “Art of Love” show. For more information on the artist, please visit her website HERE.

Tipton received his art training from Santa Fe Institute of Fine Arts, Mendocino Art Center, Chaffey Community College, and Riverside City College. Of his work, he has this to say: “I spend a lot of time outside observing, taking in the mood of the day and noting my own reactions. I analyze my response; what is it about this landscape that is compelling? When I know, I try to paint just that. Earlier in my life, I always had a sketchbook with me and did frequent quick drawings to remind me of the compositional elements. Now, it’s more often a camera because of digital photography and the editing software. I sometimes use just a fragment of a much larger image. Both techniques are used to build a scaffold for the painting to begin with. Then as I proceed, the process becomes dominant and the original design might change completely. However, if the impulse was strong enough, if the impression out in the landscape was vivid, my ‘emotional’ memory will guide me to something within the character of the place and my experience there.” Tipton’s honors include grants and scholarships from the State of New Mexico, Mendocino Art Center, Riverside Art Center, Fontana Artist Association, and Robert Dopf Memorial. His work has been included in corporate and public collections such as Kaiser Permanente, Oregon Health Sciences University, Swedish Medical Center, Southern Oregon University, US West Telecommunications, Texas Instruments, Hewlett Packard, Newsweek, M.C. ORANGE HAZE 1
by Ryn Clarke
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
Ryn Clarke is a fine art photographer who was introduced to photography at an early age by her father. Her professional career began as an apprentice at an advertising/photography studio in Cleveland, Ohio back in the 1970s, which helped to re-ignite her interest in photography. In the 1980s, she founded a graphic design business. After purchasing her first Canon digital camera, Clarke has focused her energy and passion in capturing the mysteries of the hidden, quiet depths of landscape and macro photography. Her work is often described as a “wabi-sabi” approach to photography – an aesthetic appreciation of the evanescence of life. Wabi-sabi images evoke an existential loneliness and tender sadness. In her landscapes, she is drawn to that mysterious lighting and the emotional atmosphere that is created by low-lying fog or rain or snow, that minor or hidden scene that patiently unfolds itself. Her macro work reflects her ability to use ambient light enhancing both the subject matter and the background, creating an almost “chiaroscuro” effect, the painting style using light and shadow, color or absence of color. Her work has been exhibited in various galleries, private collections and corporate and medical permanent collections in New York, Texas, Mississippi, Colorado, West Virginia, Minnesota, Washington, California, and Ohio. Her creative inspiration comes from the powerful black-and-white visions of Michael Kenna, John Sexton and Cole Thompson, and the color work of Georgia O’Keefe and Caravaggio. Her honors include: Carnegie Hall’s 21st Annual Juried Art Exhibition “Confluence” (First Place); Canton Luminaries Photography Juried Competition (Curator’s Choice Award); Lakeland Community College “A New May Show” Juried Art Exhibition (two Jurors Awards for Photography); 39th Annual Gates Mills Juried Art Show (Mo Novello Memorial Award); PSA International Exhibition of Photography (Bronze Medal); Lake Metroparks Photography Juried Show (Best of Show, two First Places); GCA Annual Meeting (First Place and Photography Committee Award); Tacoma Garden Club GCA FS (Best in Show and First Place). WHITE FLOCKS
by Susan Porter
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
Since her childhood, Susan Porter has always been creative. She trained as a chef where she found that the art is found as much on the palate as in the eye. Her children gave her the opportunity to try many different creative projects. Porter attended watercolor classes with Shernya Vininsky-Krause, where she was taught the principals of this difficult medium, inspiring her to paint daily. She is a huge fan of Georgia O’Keeffe, which led her to paint in a much larger macro style. This gave Porter the opportunity to push her artistic boundaries into taking up acrylics. She attended classes with Sonia Haberstich, and more recently with Momoko Allard at the Montreal Visual Arts Centre, both of whom have helped Porter develop her own style in this medium. Porter’s honors include receiving First Prize in the Arts Visuels Expo Competition, as well as People’s Choice Award Winner at Montreal’s Avenue Art’s 2010 Brush Off Competition. She has been invited to participate in the Hudson & Region Studio Tour QC, and Small Cars Tops Down Studio Tour. Juried exhibitions have been held at venues such as Stewart Hall in Quebec, as well as Cube Gallery and Trinity Gallery in Ontario. As an artist, Susan is constantly learning and wanting to grow – she has painted a few portraits, which has made her test her boundaries and given her much enjoyment. Susan is often heard to say that she finds an inner peace when painting and feels fully contented with a paintbrush in her hand. For more information on the artist, please visit her website HERE.
INTERCHANGE WITH GARDEN
by Toni Silber-Delerive
216 X 139 mm artcard
$12.99 USD
Toni Silber-Delerive was born in Philadelphia, and currently lives and works in Manhattan. She received her art training at Philadelphia College of Art, Kean College of New Jersey, School of Visual Arts (New York), and Parsons School of Design (New York). Establishing herself as a graphic designer, and the rewarding career that followed working in the creative departments of major New York design studios, led Silber-Delerive to ultimately form her own marketing communications firm, ToniDesign. She is realistic in her perception and approach, painting aerial views that represent the diverse places and spaces of the contemporary landscape with a focus on compositional aesthetics and color to communicate perspective. One discovers in the aerial vantage point, a modern perspective and fresh visual vocabulary. The flattened surface plane reveals tenuous textures of abstract space, providing pictorial milieu and verve. Drawing from the elevated position of high-rise buildings and commercial jets, Silber-Delerive produces images of cities and towns, factories and farmlands, power plants, suburbs, and highways. Her work has been exhibited in numerous shows including: Curate NYC, EstroGenius, Speakeasy Gallery, James Beard Gallery, Jeffrey Leder Gallery, Prince Street Gallery, National Arts Club, Pen and Brush Gallery, NAWA Small Works, Post Cards from the Edge, Blue Hill Plaza, Dacia Gallery, Kaller Fine Arts, Riverside Gallery, Chelsea Art Museum, Rockefeller Park Preserve, Kaminsky Family Foundation Commission, Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, NAWA Members Group Show, Zimmerli Museum, Interchurch Center, The Views at Hudson Pointe, Windam Fine Arts, Opalka Gallery, Longview Museum of Fine Arts, Belskie Museum, Westwood Gallery, and the Marquis Gallery. Silber-Delerive’s paintings have been acquired by private collectors, corporations, museums and foundations. For more information on the artist, please visit her website HERE.
